Meskel festival tour with the Historic Route - 8 days and 7 nights -(Surface + flight)

DAY 1: Arrival, Addis Ababa 

After transfer to hotel have city tour of Addis, namely to Entoto, the highest point in Addis for its great Royal collection museum and also an older mud made Palace of Emperor Minilik, the founder of Addis Ababa. Then visit the National Museum where one can see old and famous fossils such as Lucy, 3.2 Million Years old. Have lunch at Chinese restaurant. After lunch visit the St. George Cathedral, the biggest open-air market, Merkato and then Trinity Cathedral, which is resting place for the last King and his family. In the evening be taken to the Meskel square where the annual festival for making a big bone fire will take place. Attend the bon fire ceremony of Meskel festival with traditional religious dancing and chanting of priests and deacons which wear clothing similar to the old Jews culture. O/n Hilton or Intercontinental Hotel.


Day 2: Fly from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar

After break fast take an hour flight in the morning to the city of Bahir Dar, presently acting as the capital for the Amhara people. Bahir Dar is set by the side of Lake Tana at an altitude of 1,830m. above seas level. Have boat trip on lake Tana, the biggest Lake in Ethiopia to visit the island monastery of Ura Kidanemhiret, which is the most colorful from the nearest available. Up on arrival head to the breath-taking Blue Nile falls. After lunch break visit the colorful open-air market of Bahir Dar .  Hotel: Home land or Abay Minch Lodge.


Day 3: Drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar

Drive to Gondar.  After lunch break explore the 16th-17th century Castle compound and the bathing pool of King Fasilades constructed by King Fasilades and his successors. Later also visit to the colorfully decorated church of Debre-Birhan Selasse. Hotel: Taye, Quara, Florida or Goha. 


Day 4: Drive from Gondar to Simien National Park and back to Gondar

Early in the morning drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains national park and en route admire the scenic beauty of the road. Up on arrival in Sankaber, the head quarter, visit the colony of the endemic Gelada Baboon and also admire the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding chain mountains. Return drive back to Gondar for overnight stay. Hotel: Taye, Quara, Florida or Goha.


Day 5: Fly to Lalibela

Up on arrival proceed to visit the first group of churches which are five in number and represent the earthly Jerusalem. Then proceed to local bar to experience honey made wine.  Hotel: Village Tukul or Mountain View Hotel or same level. Have a barbeque dinner with traditional dancing show.


Day 6: Lalibela

Have breakfast and proceed to cover the remaining second group of churches which are 5 in number again and represent heavenly Jerusalem. After lunch break visit third group of church, which is the cross-shaped and very popular church of St. George. Hotel : Tukul village Hotel / Mountain View.


Day 7: Fly from Lalibela to Axum

Take the morning flight to Axum. Up on arrival proceed to visit the Stele filed, the Tomb of Kaleb and his son G/ Meskel, The stone inscription of King Ezana (4th Century king). Have lunch and precede the sightseeing to Axum’s St. Mary of Zion Church, where the original ark of covenant given to Moses is believed to be, the ruined palace of Queen Sheba and Ezana’s stele park. Hotel : Consular International or Brana Hotel.


Day 8: Fly from Axum to Addis Ababa

Take the flight back to Addis Ababa. Up on arrival in Addis Ababa head to Ethnographic Museum. Have lunch break and visit coffee market, jeweler market and souvenir shops the biggest Shopping mall. Have a traditional Dinner with live cultural Dance Show and transfer out.
